Join us as some of Chicago’s youngest authors take the stage to read from their newly published work, autograph books, and toast to their hard work and success!
Open Books is proud to present the release of our new student anthology, Bottled Up, Rising Up.The anthology – a tangible testament to weeks of hard work by 6th and 7th grade students from ChicagoQuest Charter School – is a source of pride and confidence for students who originally never viewed themselves as readers, let alone as published authors. The students’ work examines times in which they grappled with destructive emotions, and shares their experiences through poetry and prose. They expose and release emotional struggles, and celebrate moments of strength and love.
ReadThenWrite is a twice-weekly reading, writing, and publishing experience designed to immerse low-income youth in high-quality young adult literature, and to transform participating students into articulate, confident, published authors. Come witness these writers of tomorrow read from their first published works.
Copies of Bottled Up, Rising Up will be available for purchase during the event.
