Fairytales too scary for modern children, say parents
Some of the reasons given for not reading classic fairy tales to children anymore:
- too ‘unrealistic’
- the term dwarves was found to be inappropriate
- likely to scare young children
- would be uncomfortable explaining gingerbread man getting eaten by a fox
Are the stories to scary for children or are the parents just overreacting? I tend to think that purely focusing on the happy and good stories is just as bad as focusing solely on these dark and fun ones. ^KE
